I read Arabella a few months ago and was astounded that I could have
missed such a great contribution to the literary world! I'm so
glad I found them, and even more excited that my father has almost
every single title in his bookshelves! Second-hand bookstores and
Church fetes are really good if you want to find cheap copies.
Thankyou very much for this lovely website! |

Hi I am Fathima from Sri Lanka. Georgette Heyer's books are
beyond comparison. I have read most of her books till the pages have
fallen apart. My favourite - Black Moth, Friday's Child,
Frederica, Regency Buck, These Old Shades......... I can go on and on.
Those who have not read her books do not know what a lot they are
missing. And to the others - HAPPY READING! |

About 'Barbara Castle'
Well, there were Vernon and Irene...
Do you suppose they meant Barbara Cartland? I've seen so many
howlers on book jackets that I would not be surprised. Often, neither
the cover artist nor the blurb writer seems to have read the book, and
with Georgette Heyer, they nearly always get the hero's title
wrong. |

Thanks to Mary (and others!) for the great recommendations. I was able
to find some used Catherine Fellows books online for fantastic prices
- and loved them. Exactly what I was looking for. I found some Clare
Darcy at the library and really enjoy those as well. So thank you,
thank you! I look forward to reading Carla Kelly and Patricia Veryan
as well.
Question: The jacket of a C. Darcy book compares the book to the
regency writings of "Miss Heyer and Barbara Castle". I
can't find any info on a Barbara Castle regency author... only
Barbara Castle the politician and a Patricia Castle, author.
Any insight?
Thanks again!

I love Heyer's attention to detail and wit. Jo Beverley works to
do similar research, but her novels are much more steamy. Carla Kelly
is the writer I think most like Austen and Heyer in that she does
research and writes character-driven stories. |

It feels so wonderful to be inside this lost world of romance and
elegance and sparkling wit. |

just found your website (wow + thanks)...such a pleasure to find other
people interested in the gentle world of GH's Regency books. i
have all of them, yellowed + falling apart from over-use. Fav. is
These Old Shades, why has no-one ever made a movie of that book?!
it's a winner. Justin's proposal to Leonie is a romantic
classic. |

Another author I that's similar to Heyer is Patricia Veryan. She
tends to use bit characters in one book as major characters in the
next, so it's fun to watch characters you already know reappear
and see how their lives progress. My favorite series is "The
League of Jewelled Men," which is set in the Georgian era. August
Falcon has got to be one of my favorite characters of all time. |

Dear Shelley
You might enjoy Catherine Fellows books "The Marriage
Masque" and 'The Heywood Inheritance"- I don't
think they are in print here anymore (my copies are quite old) but I
have seen occasional copies on ebay from US. Her style is very like
GH's, and not at all steamy!
I'm glad I'm not alone in hating the Regency Buck braodcast. |

Hi Shelley,
A couple of months ago I was on this site asking the same question,
and some people were kind enough to give me the names of some other
authors who write in the regency genre. Claire Darcy, Sylvia Thorpe,
Marian Devon and Emily Hendrickson are the authors that were suggested
to me. I have only read Claire Darcy's novels, and I would
recommend them to you if you don't want steamy scenes. They
aren't bad, quite light, and you do laugh out loud in some
places. Personally I feel that she was practically copying
Heyer's style, but anyway. I haven't read any of the others
yet so I can't give you my verdict on them.
Happy Reading! |

Over the past year or so I have been reading (and LOVING) Georgette
Heyer's novels... trying to pace myself. Sadly, I have one book
left - I knew this day would come. I have been looking for another
author that writes novels simlar to Austen or Heyer - great dialogue,
regency romance. I checked the Regency Reading link and other sites
for suggestions but, while you shouldn't "judge a book by
it's cover", based on the bookscover and descriptions, they
were a little more steamy than I am looking for. Can anyone recommend
an author with a similar tenor to Austen and Heyer. Thanks! |

Hi Kristy,
Thanks a bunch. Actually, I'm doing a research study about
"out of print" novels in Australia. I have never seen a
Heyer novel in a book store. Only in libraries or second hand book
stores. I just wanted to double check. Is there anyother forum where I
can check? Any other novels of Heyer that are out of print in
Australia (in particular)?
Thanks a bunch!! |
