Hello All GH lovers!
Just want to wish you all a very Happy New Year. I want to ask if
anyone has read Spring Muslin, and if so is it good like all the rest
of her books.
Sally how can I thank you for having this wonderful website? You are
the best!!!!!!!!!

I just finished "Lady of Quality". The story was great, I
loved Annis' common sense and truly feel I could understand her
unconventional way of thought in a society very intent on keeping her
conventional. This is by far one of the BEST in terms of plot and
tying in the aspects of romance. |

I've just finished An Infamous Army... I didn't much like it
at first because it felt like Judith's character was being
presented much less favourably, but by the end... wow. I'm blown
away. Such detail in the battle of Waterloo, and it's really very
moving... An amazing piece of writing, I think, all the more so as
it's unusual amongst her more light-hearted romances. |

Hello,
I just finished reading The Convenient Marriage last night, and
enjoyed it very much! I love all the characters, especially Lord Rule
and Horatia. Horry is such a likeable character, especially in her
first scene with Lord Rule. It is all very amusing, and I definitely
recommend. It's joined the ranks of my favourites.
Reading Powder and Patch at the moment, and liking that as well. It
seems as if she has written it in a different style; more
lighthearted, and easygoing.
Louisa. |

Hello Jemima, I visited your blog-review, would like to comment that
when I meet both intellectuals and snobs I am proud to promote GH
because Heyer is a first class author.
Regarding The Reluctant Widow, I find it a perfectly shaped
mistery-romance-social-psychological novel. It is rich in its finesse,
irony and characters’ feelings must be read between the lines.
(I love Elinor, Carlyon, Becky, Francis Cheviot – all of them)
Ciao and Warmest regards to the visitors of PumpRoom |

Vidal is amazing... I was just reading Devil's Cub again last
night and I only wish that there were more scenes between Vidal and
Mary! Georgette Heyer's humour never fails to leave me
smiling.
I just finished Arabella this morning, and I love Ulysses! And the way
Robert talks to him is just so funny!
Sorry, Louisa, I forget to mention in my last post - I haven't
been able to find many of her books in shops either! :( Luckily my
local libraries have quite a few, but otherwise I think ebay is the
best way to go, as Gracie said. |

I love georgette heyer!! ithink they should make some movies, i think
Jeremy Northam should be a leading man, like he would make an awesome
Vidal or even Lord Rule. |

Thank you, Gracie. I've been looking around, and I will hopefully
find some.
I have just read Devil's Cub, and enjoyed it immensely! I loved
all the scenes with the old characters from These Old Shades. It was
such a great book, and I loved Mary. Vidal was pretty amazing, too. So
like his father. :)
I'm going to read The Convenient Marriage next, so I hope it is
good.
Also, I can imagine Richard Armitage as Vidal. Someone seriously needs
to make some GH movies.

Audrey, I agree on Richard Armitage. ;) I can see him as Vidal in
Devil's Cub...
I haven't read any Dorothy L. Sayers, Angie (oh, and I agree
completely about GH's beautiful phrasing), but my mother has
heaps - they're next on my list once I finish GH. I just wish
that there were more of her books - it'll be so sad when
I've finished the last one! If only it were possible to wipe my
memory so that I could read them all again for the first time.
A favourite heroine? So hard to pick! For me Sophy will always be one
of my favourites - the way she handles Charles and, in particular, Mr.
Goldhanger always leaves me smiling. I also like Mary in Devil's
Cub for her strength in the face of Vidal's anger, and of course
Frederica for all the reasons you listed, Emma. (I have quite a soft
spot for Jessamy, too.) |

Louisa, there are heaps of Heyer bgooks, both romance and mystery on
ebay for quite cheap, I was able to get a bundle of 8 good quality
books for $30, unfortunately in Australia her books are very rarely
stocked in cheap or secondhand bookshops, as it seems that she is not
widely read in Aus. |

Ahh, I forgot to put These Old Shades in my fave books. I love it!!
I'd say that either Leonie (TOS) or Sophy is my favourite
heroine. They're both awesome, and characters that you really
care about.
:)
This is a bit random, but does anybody know where, in Australia, you
can get some GH books cheap? I checked at a local second-hand
bookstore, and they didn't have any. Then I went to a few
bookstores, and they only had her mystery novels, none of her
romances. It was depressing. Then I went to this other small bookshop
a while ago, and they had her books, but for $25.00 each! I'm
sure I can get them somewhere cheaper, just don't know where.
Any suggestions? Thankyou!

Have enjoyed reading your posts of your favorite GH novels!
Can we also discuss our favorite heroine, giving the reasons why we
like or admire her?
My favorite is Frederica -- she's strong and intelligent,
self-sacrificial and responsible, and (this is very important!) has a
great sense of humor. I admire the way she has managed her siblings
through many family crises, and her determination to stick to her
principles even when this is a costly choice. I also like that she is
a balanced character with clear flaws -- she's a "managing
female" who is not beautiful.
Would love to hear about YOUR favorite heroine! |

Hey all
My fav.3 GH books would be:
1. Sylvester
2. The Grand Sophy
3. The Corinthian
...but I also adore These Old Shades, The Convenient Marriage, The
Toll-gate, The Unknown Ajax, Sprig Muslin, Footseps In the Dark, The
Unfinished Mystery...sorry it's difficult to compile a rigid list
as I would do the others an injustice if I didn't mention
them.
I'm so happy for such a website! I also don't know many GH
readers. I've only been reading GH for about two years having
been introduced to GH by my library teacher when I was 16.
I absolutely treasure these in depth discussions on her books and
characters and the suggestion for what books to read. It's
lovely!
bye
